The 3M 39053 Paint Restoration System is a do-it-yourself system that takes the guesswork out of paint restoration. Designed for use on the outer clear coat paint finish of your vehicle, it includes a trio of premium 3M liquid compound products (Scratch Remover Plus, Shine Restorer and Synthetic Wax Protectant) applied in an easy 3-step process utilizing a 6-inch orbital sander or polisher (sold separately). 3 Easy Steps
The 3M 39053 Paint Restoration System is all about ease of use and is designed to produce results that can be consistently achieved by just about anyone, regardless of their experience working with automobile finishes. The system consists of the three liquid compounds that are applied in series - first, the 3M Scratch Remover Plus product which removes patches of clear coat oxidation, swirl marks and light scratches; second, the 3M Shine Restorer compound which renews a high-gloss shine; and finally, 3M's Synthetic Wax Protectant compound which protects the newly restored finish. The system also provides for optional initial prep of trouble areas using 3M's Scratch Eraser Pad that allows for additional scratch removal by hand when necessary. Otherwise, application of all three products of the system utilize a user-provided 6-inch random orbital polisher or sander, and color-coded foam pads (included in the system) which attach to polisher/sander's head.
The three products of the 3M Paint Restoration System contain different coarseness of texture which is the basis of the system's 3-step process. The color of the foam pads used match the colors indicated on each of the product bottles included: yellow for scratch removal, blue for the shine restorer and white for the synthetic wax. I thought the instructions were very good. I had no problems following the steps. I would suggest starting on a small area of the car, just so you can get comfortable with how the system works. The results were amazing. We had bought an older used car that had large scratches on the hood and trunk. After we used the 3M restoration system, the scratches disappeared. We were so impressed with this 3M product; we used the product on our newer cars. Now some of the deeper scratches still existed, but they were now fine lines in the paint that you had to look hard to see. I would recommend this product.
The kit it's good because all of the items it includes, but the rubbing commpund it's not as good as I though. I had to buy an aditional and stronger one to make the first step and then continue with the ones included in the kit. Maybe it's good for a 1 or 2 year car, but I don't recomended if the paint is very opaque, burned or with deep scratches.
